When Kijiji Republic starts trading with an artisan group or individual, we aim to stay committed to working with them in the long-term and to building its capacity to become successful. We are committed to sustaining consistent purchases from the moment we make the bond with the artisan. We are committed to grow with the artisans from year to year. To continue to maintain this relationship, we aim to have representatives represent Kijiji Republic at the local levels.

 While we grow we also promise that Kijiji Republic will reinvest back into the communities where we acquire our products, by meeting such needs as providing clean drinking water, building and supporting education for children, providing health facilities.

Fair Prices

Kijiji Republic is committed to paying a fair market price for the products it purchases. A price that ensures that artisans are adequately compensated for the time, skill, labor and material resources invested in making each product. Since pricing varies according to the economic and social context in which an artisan works. A fair price is determined by the artisan in conversation with a Kijiji Republic buyer and is based on the cost of materials, and a fair wage for the production time and skill level required in making the products. Fair prices enable the artisans to meet their needs for a livelihood.

Kijiji Republic pays its artisans in full for each product. Once the products arrive in the United States, Kijiji Republic is responsible for the marketing. Artisans' wages are not affected by product markdowns or discounts because they have already received payment in full.

Business Ethics

Kijiji Republic promises to ensure that in all it business transactions it will uphold to carry out is business in the most respectful and honest manner with each other and with individuals outside the organization, both public and private.  Kijiji Republic will ensure that we give credit to our artisans by highlighting their stories and work.

Environmental Responsibility and Sustainable Resources

At Kijiji Republic, our goal is sustainability—not just for our artisan partners, but also for the environment.  We strive to minimize our carbon footprint while maximizing our impact on disadvantaged artisans. The majority of our goods are produced in the most environmentally friendly way possible—by hand. Many artisans recycle materials, as used tires, beads and glass to create innovative and functional products. Many items are made with natural materials, from cow horns, coconut shells, tree resins, leather, sisal, and river water weeds. Artisans source renewable, natural materials to keep resources in balance. Artisans use local raw materials whenever possible, and many artisans use natural dyes. Several artisans also source sustainable wood, or 'good wood,' such as bamboo, cedar, from certified farms that replant trees once they are sourced

Child Labor

Kijiji Republic respects the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, as well as local laws and social norms in order to ensure that the participation of children in production processes of fairly traded articles does not adversely affect their well-being, security, educational requirements and need for play. We will ensure that this information is disclosed in cases where Kijiji Republic works directly with informally organized artisans.
